     The Guancaishou,(棺材獸 in Chinese), is a strange and quite particular animal, spotted in the southeastern Shennongjia mountains in Hubei province, China. 

 Its appearance was described as a herbivorous animal, similar to the chimerical combination between a hippopotamus, a rhinoceros or a donkey, with robust legs and a large head, as well as a flexible tail that moved in a snarling manner, being described as a gray animal. , often also described as having a single horn, in addition to having hooved legs.

      On May 25, 1982, Li Guohua, who was working for the nature reserve's scientific team, observed an animal grazing on the slopes of Wuming Peak. It was described as a cross between a rhinoceros and a hippopotamus, 2.9 meters long. and 1.4 tall, with a large head and stubby legs, a robust barrel-shaped body, and was covered with grayish hair, having a light and flexible tail that it used to turn its back and was observed swinging its head forward and backwards, as he moved, he broke tree twigs and dislodged stones from the ground.

Another report appeared in the Jianghan Morning Post on December 4, 1986, where it said that farmers in the municipality of Xinhua described supposed giant animals with semi-aquatic habits, which fit the description of the protagonists of this case. but with the characteristic that these also have swimming habits, we can intuit that they have this quality then, although these animals were already mentioned in Chinese folklore. 

                  Theories  

     If it is not a case of fraud, there are some theories about it, it is believed that it could have been a type of rhinoceros of an already known species, since it is known that the Sumatra rhinoceros fits the description perfectly and is known to have inhabited that area until recently. short time, it could also be a confusion with some type of antelope or bovid and of course there is a very low probability that it is a new species still undiscovered inhabiting many mountains, which are plagued with myths about strange animals
