Something dark that hides in the jungle

The mystery of a dark feline in the jungles

The big cat family is one of the most impressive on the planet, having such imposing specimens as the tiger, the leopard and the lions although this family also has representations in America such as the Jaguar and today we will talk about a strange tipe Jaguar which supposedly inhabits the jungles of the great indomitable Amazon, we begin.

The white-throated jaguar

The oncą-cagu, (from Tupi: big-headed jaguar or "the jaguar that is larger than all other cats and hunts in pairs), better known as the white-throated jaguar, it is about a mysterious morph of jaguar seen in the states of Matto Grosso, Rio Madeira, Rio Aripuanã and Amazonas.

It is described as larger than the Amazon jaguar and completely black, except for a white pattern with bib-shaped spots on the throatUnlike the melanic jaguar, it does not have visible rosettes and instead its coloration is uniform, having the peculiarity of hunting in pairs, being faster and stronger than common Jaguars, in addition to being skilled swimmers, were apparently already known by the natives for a long time and the first reports were from the explorades since the 18th century, but there is something more than just this.

Evidence and stories

                 ((Photography of skulls and skin

It turns out that there is several evidence, most of it found by the Dutch primatologist Marc van Roosmalen, who compiled several quite real eyewitness accounts of the onça-canguçú, and a caboclo community that lives near the Uira-Curupá river; Some of these are extremely interesting, such as a case of a 9-year-old girl who was killed by a pair of these cats.

On another occasion, two people in Nova Olinda claimed to have captured a puppy of this variety, which had remained on a shore while its parents were busy swimming across a river. This one was of the color already described, although they took care of it, the puppy died later. late, but its skull was preserved, which Marc collected, Marc also obtained the skull of an adult, which was property of a Caboclo people who lived in Tucunaré: this cat had been killed some years before by a man who had already died and, although his possessions had been thrown into the forest, the unusual skull had been preserved, as seen in the photo above, it has exceptionally long canines, both of which are on the skin of the same animal.

Veredictos extraños

Now and because the evidence has not been analyzed, the identity of this animal remains unknown, some say it could be a simple color morph, although others say it could be a sub-species, still others say it could even be a new species or a mutation similar to the probing king, but to date, nothing is complete.

Let's hope one day it will be possible to analyze the remains of the known specimens and give a verdict, the rest is at your discretion.
