Senegal dolphin

It was a mysterious dolphin reported off the Atlantic Ocean coast of Senegal, known from sightings made by WFJ Mörzer Bruyns near Dakar.

The Senegal dolphin had a short, "chubby" body, with a short, stout snout, like the Greek dolphin, and a "spotted brown" dorsal surface contrasting with a dirty white underside, presumably gathered in huge herds off Senegal, and are described as playful and friendly, playing near boats and reaching speeds of up to eighteen knots.

According to Mörzer he observed these dolphins off the coast of Senegal, near Dakar, where large pods regularly appeared in this region, which generally contained between fifty and one hundred individuals, but probably also in thousands, especially during the winter, The same area attracts pods of common dolphins, which according to Mörzer Bruyns look similar to the Senegal dolphin from a distance, but are very different, Mörzer Bruyns also saw possible photographs of a Senegalese dolphin, taken by Jean Cadenat, in an anonymous diary.

To date, it has not been possible to know what this animal was, there is no certainty of its existence, He has also not been seen again after the events of Willem's trip, so his classification is uncertain and possible photos are lost media.

gilligan's dolphin

This is a strange cetacean, reported in the Bohol Sea off Mindanao in the Philippines.

The Illigan's dolphin supposedly had a "plow head", unlike any known species, being brightly colored, with a dark brown dorsal surface, orange and yellow flanks and a pink underside.

These dolphins were supposedly observed by Mörzer Bruyns off the northern coast of Mindanao in the Philippines, specifically in Illigan Bay off the Aligay Islands, observing several pods of ten to thirty individuals, with the company of other whales of different species hunting together.

It is not yet known if these are a known species since they have not been seen again, although it is thought that it is possibly a very poorly identified known species.

Greek dolphin

The most famous of the 3, it is a creature, seen a couple of times in the Mediterranean, near the coasts of the eastern strip of the Mediterranean, east of Sardinia and also near Stromboli.

Described as dirty white, with smoky brown and gray spots behind the fine dorsal, a white underside, a brown dorsal area and a white stripe on one side, it was also smaller and stockier than a striped dolphin, being short and plump, with a rather short and stocky snout.

It was usually seen traveling in groups of up to fifty individuals, but more commonly two to ten, and could reach speeds of up to fifteen knots, it is even reported that the explorer observed their reproductive cycle, observing calves near Stromboli in January and possible newborn calves in the same area in October.

It is not yet known if these creatures are real or a confusion with another species, These cetaceans are really very interesting and deserve to be more disseminated, all the information about them is in the book Field guide of whales and dolphins, whose PDF will be in the blog library.
