The terror of the waters of Asia

A strange species of arthropod in the Indo-Pacific Sea

The Asian continent is a region bathed in mysticism, both culturally and biologically, full of very exotic animal and plant species, It is also home to a large part of the mega fauna that exists on earth, but nevertheless, this region remains unexplored, and there are still secrets to discover, among them what we will see next.

Among Asian legends, those from Japan and Vietnam about giant sea centipedes stand out, these being usually fanciful themes, but which seem to have a certain degree of truth, such as the legend of con rit.

It is a creature, described as a huge oceanic centipede that lives in the sea off southeastern Vietnam, in Indo-Pacific waters capable of attacking and killing fishermen, described as an animal with bony plates and that uses its fish-like fins to swim, also according to the body was made up of segmented joints that sounded like sheets of metal when hit.

The first initial investigation of the Con Rit was carried out by Dr. A. Krempf, director of the Indochina Oceanographic and Fisheries Service, in the 1920s, finding different stories from fishermen who saw it during the 19th century, in addition to the testimony of a forestry academic, who claimed to see a corpse of that creature that measured 60 feet long and 3 feet wide.

It has not been possible to verify more about him and all his sightings and evidence came from the 19th century, so it could suggest that perhaps this creature is already extinct if it existed, although it would be very likely that it did, and also if it did not become extinct, Very strong evidence could have emerged long ago.

In another instance we have the beast of Brunei, a mysterious being with arthropod characteristics, which was captured in Brunei some years ago, at the lat coordinates: 4.97 Long: 114.90, this is near the coast within the capital of Brunei, Bandar Seri Begawan, and a photograph has been uploaded to the web, here we have it for you:

It certainly had a very unfamiliar appearance, and the lack of anything in the photograph that could provide a scale of measurement only served to increase the mystery surrounding it, at first glance, It looked like a strange form of crustacean, but appears to lack the considerable number of limbs and the double pair of antennae typically associated with these arthropods, in addition, the pincer-shaped cerci apparently present at the posterior end of their body were much more reminiscent of the abdominal pincers of the scissors and other insects than to anything exhibited by a crustacean.

This photo was even submitted to the site Whats' that bug, which specializes in identifying unusual insects and other arthropods and usually achieves considerable results, But nevertheless, they were not able to identify it either, and this case remained a mystery despite different analyzes of the photo and theories, but it may be that this creature is the same as the one with rit.

Let us remember the description of the first, if we analyze well the characteristics of the Brunei beast, they would closely match those of the con rit, resulting in this beast being too similar to the monster they mentioned in the Vietnamese seas, perhaps it is likely that they are the same species, even if we risk, We could say that the Brunei beast could be a juvenile phase of the con rit, oh a species familiar to this one, remember that an amphibious centipede was discovered a long time ago, it would not be unreasonable to think that perhaps there was or is a large arthropod beast roaming the seas of the Indo-Pacific, without being detected or disturbed.

That leaves me thinking, how many species could exist in Asia, that we still don't know.
